Perlite is a material of volcanic origin. During the processing material is graded according to particle size.
Perlite has a very low weight, and unlike the kieselguhr has no inner pores. Perlite is usually used in conjunction with kieselguhr to provide fluffy effect to filter layer.
For very rough filtration perlite may be used alone, for example in vacuum filters.
